From the 24th to 30th April 2023, Griffiths will be undertaking surfacing works on the A467, Newport, between Bassaleg Roundabout and the Rogerstone Welfare Ground. The work will be undertaken at night, between 19:00 and 06:00 under a full road closure on the northbound carriageway, and a lane closure on the southbound carriageway. Due to the nature of the works, some noise disruption is expected, but we will endeavor to keep this to an absolute minimum. A fully signed diversion will be in place during the closures.

A467 Resilient Roads, Newport
About The Project
Griffiths have been appointed as the Principal Contractor by Newport City Council (NCC) to deliver the A467 Resilient Roads Scheme.
The A467 is a key strategic route that connects Newport and Caerphilly and provides a direct link to the M4 Motorway. Between Bassaleg Roundabout and Foxgloves roundabout, the A467 is a rural Dual 2 Lane All Purpose (D2AP) carriageway. Currently the speed limits vary; with a 70-mph speed limit northbound, and a 70-mph limit southbound until approximately the on-slip road from Rogerstone Junction, where a 50-mph speed limit has been put in place. NCC have advised that they are currently undertaking a consultation on reducing the northbound speed limit to 50-mph. The design proposals are based upon the 50-mph speed limit.
NCC have carried out investigatory work with previous partners who have identified safety and serviceability issues on the section of the A467 located north of Bassaleg Roundabout. The main concerns include surface water drainage issues, poor condition of the vehicle restraint systems which is seen as being at the end of its serviceable life and poor carriageway and pavement conditions.
The works will consist of pavement replacement, drainage improvements and replacement of the vehicle restraint system along the central reserve, thus increasing safety to road users.
The extent of the scheme can be seen on the map below:
The scheme is being jointly funded by NCC and Welsh Government’s Local Transport and Resilient Roads Fund.
