A470 Llanelltyd to Dolgellau Active Travel Scheme
About The Project
This project, undertaken on behalf of the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA) will improve an existing pathway running adjacent to the A470 between Llanelltyd and Dolgellau to make it suitable for use as a multi-user path.
The Scheme itself runs along the western side of the A470 carriageway from the village of Llanelltyd at the roundabout and follows the carriageway southeast and across the bridge over the Afon Mawddach, before crossing over to the other side of the carriageway at the junction for the Class 3 minor road to Cymer abbey. It then continues along the east side of the carriageway before crossing again at the roundabout with the A493 to Tywyn.
The majority of the scheme consisted of widening the existing footway and constructing it in line with modern width and standards.
Old kerblines have been removed followed by the installation of new kerbs and edging kerbs to permit the widening of the new multi-user path to Dolgellau. Additional tactile surfaces have been installed along with new alignments of traffic islands along the A470, along with resurfacing works along the completed new pathway between Llanelltyd and Dolgellau.
Both additional and new signage along with white lining have been provided along the length of the scheme to the Mawddach Trail entrance, theoretically linking the village of Llanelltyd to Dolgellau and the Mawddach Trail. The Trail is a cycle path route, part of Lôn Las Cymru, which runs for some 8 miles from Dolgellau to Morfa Mawddach railway station, by Barmouth bridge on the Cambrian coast.
Work commenced on the 6th February 2023 and was completed in May 2023.
