Old Colwyn Promenade Raising Works
About The Project
Running concurrent to the Costal Defence works, this project will see the promenade and road raises 2 metres higher than the current level, between Rotary Way and Splash Point (by Old Colwyn Arches) and will help protect the promenade from seawater coming over the top during storms. The rock barricade needs to be completed first on the other side of the seawall, because this will support and protect the higher promenade.
The Costal Path is currently closed until the end of February 2024, with completion of the whole project expected during the first quarter of 2024.
.
In addition to raising the road and promenade by 2 metres, the project will also provide an outdoor classroom, electric car charging points and beach access ramp.
The works include:
- New promenade wall construction
- Importing fill material to raise road and promenade levels
- New promenade concrete slabs/surface
- Drainage
- Street lighting
- Carriageway construction and parking bays
- Additional rock revetment construction (raising of existing)
- Provision of new handrailing and finishes to the promenade
These are major engineering works which requires large plant and machinery, including cranes, tracked excavators and dumpers. We can only deliver these works safely by completely closing off this section of the promenade, and both the road and active travel route from Splash Point (by Old Colwyn Arches) to Rotary Way is closed throughout the work, and we apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.
Diversions for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists are in place. Please refer to the latest information regarding diversions in our Traffic Management section here
Enabling works are currently underway, and the Coastal Path is closed until the end of February 2024.
