Anglesey Highway Maintenance & Street Lighting Term Service Contract

Griffiths have undertaken the Highway Maintenance and Street Lighting Term Service Contract for Isle of Anglesey County Council since 2019.

Under this contract we maintain approximately 1,300km of roads; 1,100km of public rights of way; 10,000 streetlights and 1,500 of both illuminated and non-illuminated road traffic signs across the island, 24/7 – 365 days of the year.

Our work is extremely varied, and includes winter maintenance operations, which includes gritting and snow ploughing, emptying gullies, weed treatment and supporting the Emergency Services associated with highway issues.

Typical situations that we are called out to assist with include road traffic collisions – clearing up debris and making the road/footpaths safe. We also attend to flooding and storm damage such as fallen trees, dangerous road conditions such as potholes and damaged ironworks, attend to diesel and oil spillages and provide a reactive service for street lighting faults and outages.

We also look after ‘street furniture’ and structures across Anglesey, which includes benches, traffic barriers and bollards, to name but a few.
In addition to the above, small civil engineering schemes and projects are awarded using the contract mechanism, which include:
• Flood alleviation and drainage schemes
• Safe routes to schools, footways and cycleways
• Junction and visibility improvements
• Structures such as bridges and retaining walls
